Chelan Skatepark Update! 3/20/02: From Colin Mclane (bigy53@hotmail.com) : My name is Colin Mclane and I live in Snohomish Washington (near Everette). A Skate park was recently built in my town and thanks to my friends and I going to city meetings, we are allowed to ride it. This freedom to use my park when ever I want made me realize how many other parks in Washington do not allow bikes. The park is really cool. There isn't anything super big there but there are all sorts of hips and manuals and about a thousand different lines to take. There's also a whole bunch of street stuff, including a nine stair ledge and rail. There's also a four foot half bowl which always makes for really fun sessions. All in all it's a really fun place to ride and the skaters are usually pretty mellow. When told by one of my teachers that I had to write a final paper about an issue that I felt was important, I chose the issue of bikes in public skate parks. I will send it to BRO to post on the web site when I am finished. I also might have pics of the park I can send, but I have to get them developed first and see how they turn out. Directions to the park: Snohomish is well east of Seattle. Take I90 over Snoqualmie pass. The city is along HWY 97. Take the HWY907 from I90 to the HWY97 S. Check out this link to The city of Snohomish official website Check out a news article on the park in the Everett Herald HERE 03/04/02: From Gene B Check out Gene`s BMX Page HERE A 1,100-square-foot, steel-reinforced concrete slab with about 15 ramps will take shape at Don Morse Park this spring. Voting 5-2, the Chelan City Council approved the project Thursday night. Unknown if bmx is welcome to the park at this time. As is, construction is expected to begin March 18, with completion by April 11. 10/10/01: On October 9th 2001 at a City of Wenatchee Parks Board meeting, the Parks board said YES to a BMX Dirt Jumping Park. Problems between the skateboarders and the bmx bike riders at the skateboard park have been flaming up for some time now. The City of Wenatchee Parks Board helped ease the tension by giving some space in the same park to the bmx bike riders to build dirt jumps. Anyone wanting to help fund the project can send donations to the Leavenworth Skate Park Construction fund at: Leavenworth City Hall P.O.Box 287 Leavenworth,Wa.98826 Or call the city hall at: 509-548-5275 for information For more information CLICK HERE From Ben Ward BRO-Oregon BMX Park in Vancouver, WA Just across the river from Portland, in Vancouver, WA, is a meeting relating to the construction of a bike specific park. We need to have a large turnout. Read to below information and contact me, Ben Ward or Caleb Moos for any questions you may have. This is a quick run down, Next Wed, April, 11 is the Vancouver Bike Park Meeting. The meeting is scheduled from 7:00-9:00pm. We need as much support to show as possible. This does not mean that you will have to talk. You will serve a greater purpose by just filling a seat and hearing what the views are of others. The more people that show, the better representation we can make for the bike community. 3/9/01: On March 21, there will be a meeting for reviews and comments on the Final Master Plans for a new park going up in Vancouver. This is a community park, but at the last meeting, we got the architect to take out the tennis courts, and put in a bikepark...Permanently. Everybody there was real cool and supportive of us. Pretty much everybody there was saying since we showed up, a BMX park probably will go in, but we could still use your help. Vancouver, WA is just north of Portland, OR. It is within riding distance. We really want to get this park in because there is nowhere to ride here, and we finally have government officials saying we could have a park just for us (The bikers) If we get enough bikers there with a positive attitude, it would help a lot. And the head guy said if we get enough guys, the bikers could design the park. Everybody in the Portland/Vancouver area should try to get there. It's gonna be rad. The meeting will be held at the C-Tran Fisher's Landing Transit Center (3510 SE 164th Ave) on the upper floor (Rose F. Besserman Room) from 7pm-9pm on March 21. This park is the Pacific Community Park, so if you go to it, don't get confused and make comments for the wrong one. If you have any questions, either e-mail me back (Rd4Schwinn@aol.com), or call Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation Dept. at 360.696.8171 You can also e-mail your comments to Rodney Wojtanik at rod.wojtnaik@ci.vancouver.wa.us Thanks Guys. BMX RIDERS ORGANIZATION, WASHINGTON CHAPTER Dustin Garrett and BRO-WASH are working to get public facilities for BMX in the State of Washington.
