San Francisco Dirt Jumps
SF has tentative plans to help riders build some dirt jumps at Crocker-Amazon park.
Since the long awaited Crocker-Amazon skatepark has been off-limits to bikes, bikers have been hoping for an alternative. Local rider Roberto Acevedo made some calls to the SF Board of Supervisors and has had some good results. The board of supes approved a declaration stating that San Francisco should develop dirt trails for BMX riders.
Since then, Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval and his aide Boris Delepine have put in the effort to get the project rolling. The manager of Crocker-Amazon park has agreed to make a small plot in the park available for bike jumps and will be submitting an estimate of preparation costs to the board of supes.
Within a month or two there should be a community meeting at the park to find out if there will be any concerns from neighbors and other park users. After that there should be a design/planning meeting with riders to come up with a layout for the jumps. The City is expecting a lot of riders to show up at these meetings. If your ride a BMX bike in or near San Francisco you should come to these meetings. Check here for updates and add your name and email to the BRO contact list.
There are a lot of details to be worked out so this could take some time. The City is also hoping some local contractors or suppliers will be able to donate a good supply of quality dirt that will be needed to build the trails. So if anyone knows of any possible suppliers, let us know at info@bmxriders.org.
